  • The WONNOW Awards, promoted by both entities, highlight and celebrate female talent in STEM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Are you a STEM undergraduate student looking for your first professional experience at CaixaBank? Would you also like to receive mentorship from Microsoft professionals? If the answer is “yes,” the WONNOW Awards are your chance.

CaixaBank and Microsoft are launching the 8th edition of the WONNOW Awards, an initiative designed to promote and bring visibility to female talent in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). These awards are not only a form of recognition, but also a gateway to unique opportunities in a sector where female representation is scarce.

The WONNOW Awards offer 15 selected students the chance to gain professional experience at CaixaBank for six months and receive mentorship from Microsoft.

The selected candidates will be part of a dynamic work environment, applying their knowledge to real-life projects and contributing to the development of technological solutions. Moreover, they will receive personalised mentorship from Microsoft, allowing them to enhance their technical skills and acquire new knowledge in key areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analysis, and programming.

Additionally, both entities will recognize the student with the best academic record, professional, personal, and social trajectory, with a monetary award of 10,000 euros and access to Microsoft’s mentoring.

Stories that inspire

To participate in the WONNOW Awards, female students who have completed at least 180 credits of a STEM degree can submit their application via the website www.wonnowawards.com until June 30.

These awards have captured the attention of thousands of young women across Spain and have shown significant growth since their first edition, breaking participation records every year, with a total of 1,078 applications in the latest edition—quadrupling participation from the inaugural year.

In total, over the course of its seven editions, more than 4,800 students have taken part in the program. Patricia Andolz, winner of the first edition, is still working at the CaixaBank Group. Carlota Armillas, also awarded in the first edition, became the only Spanish woman to win a scholarship from the Bill and Miranda Gates Foundation in the last 15 years. Fátima El Baghdadi, winner of the second edition of these awards, received the award in the “Rising Star” category of the Globant Awards 2020: Women That Build. Meanwhile, Paula Calderón, another first-edition winner, currently works at the National Cancer Research Center (CNIO).

All of them share something in common: they have participated in some edition of the WONNOW Awards and are currently working in STEM-related fields.

All of them have broken barriers and are part of the small percentage of women employed in STEM. Thanks to their example and that of many other women to come, more and more girls and teenagers will aspire to pursue STEM degrees. The WONNOW Awards represent a unique opportunity for young women preparing to enter the professional world.
