Gonzalo Gortázar

CEO

Gonzalo Gortázar, born in Madrid in 1965, has been CEO of CaixaBank since June 2014.

Mr Gortázar holds a dual degree in Law and Business from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) and an MBA with distinction from the INSEAD Business School.

He is also currently Chairman of VidaCaixa and CaixaBank Payments & Consumer and board member of Banco BPI.

Mr Gortázar served as CaixaBank's Chief Financial Officer prior to being appointed CEO in June 2014. Before that, he was CEO of Criteria CaixaCorp between 2009 and June 2011. From 1993 to 2009, he worked at Morgan Stanley in London and Madrid, holding several posts in the investment banking division and leading the European Financial Institutions Group until he joined Criteria in mid-2009. Previously, he held various corporate and investment banking positions at Bank of America.

He has been First Vice-Chairman at Repsol and a board member of Grupo Financiero Inbursa, Erste Bank, SegurCaixa Adeslas, Abertis, Port Aventura and Saba.

Iñaki Badiola

Director Corporate & Investment Banking

Iñaki Badiola, born in Madrid in 1967; He has been a member of the CaixaBank Management Committee since January 2019.

Bachelor of Economic and Business Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the Instituto de Empresa.

He is currently Director Corporate & Investment Banking. Previously, he was Executive Director of CIB and Corporate Director of Structured Finance and Institutional Banking.

He has a track record of more than 20 years in the financial area, performing financial functions in different companies from different sectors, technology sector (EDS), distribution sector (ALCAMPO), public administration sector (GISA), transport sector (IFERCAT ) and Real Estate sector (Harmonia).

Luis Javier Blas

Chief Operating Officer

Luis Javier Blas, born in Madrid in 1966. Member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since February 2020.

Mr Blas earned his degree in law from the University of Alcalá (Madrid, 1993) Furthermore, he completed the Advanced Management Programme (AMP) at ESE Business School (Santiago de Chile, 2013), the INSEAD-BBVA (2006) corporate programme, the Corporate Management Programme at IESE-BBVA (Madrid-2003), New Economics. IESE (Madrid, 2002).

In 2020, he joined CaixaBank as the Executive Director of Resources, in charge of the following functions: Technology and Systems, Operations and Banking Services, Organization, Processes and Demand Management, General Services and Properties, Security in all its aspects, as well as the Strategy, Government and Control Corporate of Resources across the CaixaBank Group.

Before joining CaixaBank, he worked at the BBVA Group for 20 years, recently as Head of Engineering & Data and served on the Management Committee at BBVA España. He had previously worked at BBVA Chile and different branches of the Group dating back to 2000.

He has also worked at the Accenture Group, Abbey National Bank España and at Banco Central Hispano, where he started his career.

Other positions of which he has been part are, Chairman of CaixaBank Facilities Management, S.A., Sole Administrator of Silc Immobles, S.A. and Chairman and CEO of Caixabank Tech, S.L.U.

He is currently a Director of SegurCaixa Adeslas, S.A de Seguros y Reaseguros, of Caixabank Tech, S.L.U., and Director of ITNow, S.A.

Matthias Bulach

Head of Accounting, Mgmt Control and Capital

Matthias Bulach, born in Schramberg (Germany) in 1976, has been a member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since November 2016.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (2004-2006) from the IESE Business School (University of Navarra).

He also holds a degree in Economic Science (1997-2002) from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) y CEMS Management Master por la Community of European Managements Schools.

He was previously Corporate Manager of Planning and Capital at CaixaBank, where he was responsible for capital management and solvency monitoring, balance sheet planning, results planning and capital performance, and monitoring of commercial activity.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors at CaixaBank Payments & Consumer and member of its Audit Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of BuildingCenter, S.A.

He was member of the Supervisory Board at Erste Group Bank AG and member of its Audit Committee. As well as, member of the Board of Directors at CaixaBank Asset Management SGIIC S.A. and president of its Audit Committee.

He was formerly head of the Economic Analysis Office at ”la Caixa” from 2006 to 2012, where his work involved strategic planning, analysis of the banking and regulatory systems and providing support to the Chairman’s Office on the task of restructuring the financial sector. He has also been a Senior Associate at McKinsey & Company, where he specialised in the financial sector (banking and insurance) and in developing and deploying international projects.

Óscar Calderón

Board Secretary and General Counsel

Óscar Calderón, born in Barcelona in 1971, he has been General Secretary since 2014 and Secretary to the Board of Directors of CaixaBank since 2017.

Graduate in Law from the University of Barcelona (1994). State Lawyer (1998).

He has also been a State Lawyer in Catalonia (1999-2003). Lawyer to the General Secretary's Office of ”la Caixa” Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona (2004) and Deputy Secretary to the Board of Directors of Inmobiliaria Colonial, S.A. (2005-2006), in addition to Secretary of the Board of Banco de Valencia (from March to July 2013) and Deputy Secretary of the Board of Directors of ”la Caixa” Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona until June 2014. He was also a Trustee and Deputy Secretary of the ”la Caixa” Foundation until its dissolution in 2014, as well as Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation until October 2017.

Óscar Calderón de Oya is a Trustee and Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA) Foundation. He is also Secretary of Fundación de la Economía Aplicada (FEDEA) and of the Board of Trustees of the CaixaBank Dualiza Foundation.

Manuel Galarza

Head of Credit Risk Admission and Monitoring

Manuel Galarza, born in Valencia in 1971; is a member of the CaixaBank Steering Committee since March 2021.

He holds a degree in Business from the University of Valencia. Graduated with honours. Senior Executive Programme at ESADE and Advanced Management Program by Harvard Business School (2024). He is a member of the Official Registry of Account Auditors.

He has been member of the academic staff of various senior executive programmes and MBAs, including ESADE.

He began his professional career in 1994 at Arthur Andersen, where he held different positions before becoming the Director of Consulting in 2006.

In 2008, he was appointed CEO of BISA, an industrial holding company whose shareholders were Bancaja, Deutsche Bank and the Guggenheim Group.

Since January 2011, he has occupied various management positions at Bankia, from Head of Industrial and Financial and Subsidiaries and Head of Wholesale Risks in the period from 2011-2014 to Head of the Eastern Madrid Regional Business Unit in 2015-2018.

In 2018 he was appointed Corporate Director of Credit Risk and Chairman of the Risk Committee. In January 2019 he was named Deputy General Manager of Credit Risk.

He has been a member of the Bankia Steering Committee from January 2019 until he joined CaixaBank.

He has also been member of the board of directors of listed and unlisted companies, including Iberia, Realia, Metrovacesa, NH Hoteles, Deoleo, Globalvía and Caser.

David López

Chief People Officer (CPO)

David López, born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1971; has been a member of the CaixaBank Management Committee since January 2022.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, IE Senior Management Program and the Stanford Executive Program (SEP) by Stanford Graduate School of Business (2024). 

He has worked at both local and multinational companies, where his time at Arthur Andersen stands out.

In 2001, he joined La Caja de Canarias as the Director of Human Resources and Systems. The following year, he was named Deputy General Manager and Commercial Director of La Caja Insular de Ahorros de Canarias. In 2011, once La Caja Insular joined Bankia, he was named Deputy Commercial Director and, subsequently, Commercial Director for the Canary Islands. Between 2012 and 2015, he was Regional Manager of the Canary Islands and, starting in July 2015, Regional Manager of Southwestern Madrid. 

In January 2019 he was appointed Deputy General Director of People and Culture at Bankia, as well as a member of its Management Committee. Since March 2019 he has been the Chairman of the Labor Relations Committee at CECA.

In March 2021, he was appointed Deputy Human Resources Director at CaixaBank.

In January 2022, he was appointed Director of Human Resources at CaixaBank.

Since January 15, 2024, he has been Chief People Officer (CPO).

María Luisa Martínez

Head of Communications and Institutional Relations

María Luisa Martínez (Barcelona, 1964) has been a member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since May 2016.

She holds a degree in Modern History from the University of Barcelona and in Information Sciences from Barcelona Autonomous University. She has also completed the Senior Management Program at the IESE Business School.

She joined “la Caixa” in 2001 to direct relations with the media. In 2008, she was appointed director of the Communication Area, with responsibilities in corporate communication tasks and in institutional management with the media. In 2014 she was appointed Corporate Director of Communication, Institutional Relations, Brand and CSR of CaixaBank, and in 2016 she was appointed Executive Director with responsibility for the same areas. In April 2021, she was appointed Director of Communication and Institutional Relations.

She is a member of the Executive Board of Foment de Treball, an industry association, a member of Dircom Nacional (professional association that brings together communications executives and professionals from companies, institutions and consultancy firms) and Chairwoman of Corporate Excellence. She was the Chairwoman of Dircom Catalonia from 2016 to February 2024, and Chairwoman of Autocontrol (a leading organisation in the self regulation of the advertising industry in Spain) between 2018 and 2022.

Jordi Mondéjar

Head of Retail, Private and Business Banking

Jordi Mondéjar (Darmstadt, 1968) has been a member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since July 2014.

He holds a degree in Economics and Business Management (1986-1991) from the University of Barcelona, specialising in Business Economics.

He is an accounts auditor listed on the Official Register of Auditors of the Spanish Accounting and Audit Institute.

He worked at Arthur Andersen and at Cia S. Com. from 1991 through to 2000, where he specialised in financial audits at financial institutions and other regulated entities.

He joined ”la Caixa” in 2000 and has served as Head of Financial Accounting, Control and Capital.

He became Head of Risk on 22 November 2016 and thus holds overall responsibility for coordinating the management, follow-up and control of the Group's risks. The Risks Division includes areas for comprehensively managing credit portfolios (retailer and rest), Non-Performing Loans and Recoveries, Restructurings, Foreclosed assets portfolio and Global Risk Management and Planning.

Javier Pano

Chief Financial Officer

Javier Pano (Barcelona, 1962) has been a member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since October 2013.

He holds a degree in Business Administration and a MBA from the ESADE Business School since 1985.

He has been Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at CaixaBank since July 2014. He is responsible for Markets, ALM and Investor Relations. He is Chairman of the ALCO Committee and he also oversees liquidity management and wholesale funding.

Since 2017, he has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese bank Banco BPI, S.A., where he is also a member of the Risk Commission, as well as the Appointments, Evaluation and Remuneration Committee. He is also non-executive Vice President of the Board of Directors of Cecabank, S.A, and member of its Appointments Committee.

He previously worked in various posts at other entities and in the "la Caixa" Group: Croissant Express (1985-1987); Gesindex, SGIIC - General Manager (1987-1993);”la Caixa” (CaixaBank Spain) – Managing Director for Asset Management (1993-1996), then at GesCaixa/InverCaixa, SGIIC: Chief Investment Officer (CIO) (1996-2004) and from 2004 to July 2014 as Head of Treasury and Capital Markets at CaixaBank.

Marisa Retamosa

Head of Internal Audit

Marisa Retamosa, born in Barcelona in 1971, has been a member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since January 2019.

She holds a Degree in Computer Science from Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC).

Some of her certifications include CISA (Certified Information System Auditor) and CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), from the International Association ISACA.

Currently, she is Director of Internal Audit.

She has been the Corporate Director of Resource Security and Governance at CaixaBank, and before that, the Director of Computer Security and Control of the Computer Services Department.

Formerly, she also served as Head of Operations Audit of the CaixaBank Group.

Prior to joining “la Caixa” in 2000, she worked for Arthur Andersen since 1995, performing systems and process audits, and risk consulting.

Javier Valle

Head of Insurance

Javier Valle, born in Barcelona in 1969, has been a member of the Management Committee of CaixaBank since January 2019 and Director and General Manager of VidaCaixa, the leading insurance company in Spain, owned 100% by CaixaBank.

He is also currently Vice President of SegurCaixa Adeslas, a Director of Allianz Portugal, and a Director of CaixaBank Tech.

He holds a degree in Business Studies and a Master's degree in Business Administration awarded by ESADE in 1992, as well as a degree from the Community of European Management School (CEMS) in HEC Paris.

He holds several representative positions in the insurance industry: He is Deputy Chairman, member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of Unespa, the sectorial employers' association, and Director of ICEA. He is also vice president of the Conference of European Bancassurers, Member of the Insurance Advisory Board of the General Directorate of Insurance and Pension Funds (DGSFP) and Member of the Board of Directors of Esade Alumni.

He previously worked as the Managing Director of Bansabadell Vida, Bansabadell Seguros Generales and Bansabadell Pensiones, as well as CEO of Zurich Life. He was CFO of the Group Zúrich in Spain and Director of Investments for Spain and Latin America.

Mariona Vicens

Head of Digital Transformation and Advanced Analytics

Mariona Vicens, born in Girona in 1976, has been a member of CaixaBank's Management Committee since January 2023.

She graduated as Industrial Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University.

She is currently Head of Digital Transformation and Advanced Analytics. Mariona joined CaixaBank as Head of Innovation in 2012 and has been Head of Innovation and Digital Transformation since 2018.

In addition, Mrs. Vicens is a Director of CaixaBank Tech, S.L.U. of Imaginersgen, S.A. and Chairwoman of CaixaBank Payments & Consumer, E.F.C. E.P., S.A.

She initiated her career at McKinsey & Co as Associate Principal, working in the financial and pharmaceutical sectors.

Before joining CaixaBank, she developed her career in the areas of Business Strategy and Development at Novartis, obtaining international experience in China and Switzerland.
