The bank announces the winners of the 2013 FinAppsParty

  • The application was conceived by a team of four young developers from Girona and Barcelona.

CaixaBank has awarded the first prize in the 2013 FinAppsParty competition, a sum of 10,000 euro, to a team of four young developers for their application designed for mobile wallets. The application was created during the 12-hour programming marathon organised in partnership with Barcelona Digital.

The four members of the winning team "Foobar" were Joan Espasa, from Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona), Juan Esporrín, from Girona, Oriol Tendero, from Tordera (Barcelona), and Ángel Gómez, from Barcelona, whose application allows virtual wallet users to share information on the purchases they make using NFC technology. This means they can recommend promotions and businesses to other users. The app gives individuals a means of sharing their opinions, while it also includes a "gamification" system to attract users.

The second prize, of 3,000 euro, went to a team made up of Esteve Aguilera, from Capmany, and Jesús Arenas, Roc Boronat and Ana Díaz, all from Barcelona, who created a prototype application that helps SMEs and the self-employed to manage invoices.

Finally, the third prize of 1,000 euro went to a team made up of Daniel Devesa Derksen-Staats, from Xàbia (Alicante), Carles Iborra and Isaac Jordana, both from Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Víctor Vila Ases, from Terrassa, who designed an application that simplifies the settlement of debts between groups of friends who have contributed money to a particular project, such as an excursion or a joint gift.

CaixaBank, supporting mobile banking innovation

FinAppsParty is a mobile applications programming marathon focused on the field of financial services. This is the third consecutive year that CaixaBank has organised the event in Barcelona, in partnership with Barcelona Digital, to support the development of applications for new financial services.

The teams programmed non-stop for 12 hours to develop prototypes for new applications that provide mobile banking services. Some 150 participants, organised into 48 teams, competed at the 2013 event.

The bank is currently the leading mobile banking operator in Spain. It has 3.2 million mobile banking users, while its range of over 70 financial services applications have been downloaded more than 7 million times.

CaixaBank is also Europe's best mobile banking operator, according to the first Global Mobile Banking Functionality Ranking run by the international consultancy firm Forrester.

Likewise, on November 6 CaixaBank won the award for the World's Most Innovative Bank at the 2013 Global Banking Innovation Awards in Denver (USA). These annual awards celebrate the world's most innovative banks and are organised by the Bank Administration Institute (BAI) and Finacle.
