CaixaBank will cancel rent payments on the homes it owns during the state of alert

• The measure is intended for people who have lost their jobs or have been affected by redundancies, as well as for self-employed workers who have ceased activity or whose activity has been reduced by more than 40% as a result of the state of alert.
• This new initiative is part of #ByYourSideNowMoreThanEver (#ContigoMásQueNunca), which includes various measures by the bank in order to help customers, thereby curbing the effects of the coronavirus on the economy.

CaixaBank, headed by Chairman Jordi Gual and Chief Executive Officer Gonzalo Gortázar, continues to help its customers and, as of April this year, will offer rental payment holiday to the eligible tenants of the homes owned by its subsidiary BuildingCenter. This measure will be in force until such time when the government declares the end of the state of alert, including any extension.

This aid is intended for people who have lost their jobs or have been affected by redundancies, as well as for self-employed workers who have ceased activity or whose activity has been reduced by more than 40% as a result of the state of alert.

Over the coming days, BuildingCenter will provide its tenants with the means to access this assistance.  Tenants will be required to fill in a form stating whether they are eligible to access this support and, where applicable, the company will not charge rental fees for the month of April. Supporting documentation will be required as part of the application.

BuildingCenter, a company wholly owned by CaixaBank, is currently one of the largest owners of rental homes in the Spanish real-estate sector, owning more than 21,000 homes with rental contracts in place.

This new initiative is part of #ByYourSideNowMoreThanEver, which includes various measures being launched by the bank to help its customers. These include bringing forward the date their pension is paid, preventing queues in branches, and a €25bn credit facility for SMEs and self-employed workers, among others. With this effort CaixaBank endeavours to curb the effects of the coronavirus on the economy; it also highlights the bank’s and all its employees’ commitment to supporting the community at this difficult time.
