CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism, the bank's business line leading the tourism market, granted a total of €1.7 billion in loans to hotels and tourist accommodation during the first six months of the year. This volume of credit was chiefly earmarked to fund refurbishment and upgrading projects for tourist establishments; the acquisition of assets; and sustainability projects, as well as to finance the everyday operations of this type of company through working capital products.
The bank granted a total of 1,300 loans to the sector all over Spain during the first half of the year, with the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, the Community of Madrid, the Canary Islands and Andalusia leading the list of autonomous communities receiving the largest volume of credit. These figures once again highlight CaixaBank's commitment to the tourism sector, as well as its desire to play a key role in boosting the sector by granting loans and meeting its specific needs.
CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism, which currently has a total portfolio of loans to the tourist accommodation sector amounting to €8.4 billion, and close to 12,000 customers, is established as a benchmark for this business segment. In 2022, CaixaBank granted a total of €2.8 billion in loans to the sector, the highest figure the bank has ever allocated to funding tourist accommodation in a single year. By specialising in the tourism sector, CaixaBank is able to detect and adapt quickly to meet the needs of businesses and support this kind of enterprise with the bespoke service they require through a team of upwards of 30 professionals specialising in the hotel market and the bank's more than 2,200 advisers, who are experts in business consultancy.
Hotels & Tourism, specialised products and services for the tourism sector
Through CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism the bank provides the hotel market with a differential product and service offering to help companies optimise the profitability of their businesses and simplify their daily activities, taking into account the needs of different subsectors: hotels, tourist accommodation and campsites. CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism is also particularly sensitive to sustainable projects, such as those that incorporate improvements in energy efficiency, accessibility, water and waste management, or that promote the employment of people at risk of exclusion. As part of its new 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, the bank has set a strategic priority to be a sustainability leader in Europe, to which end it has mobilised €64 billion in sustainable financing to boost the transition to sustainability in companies and society alike.
Hotels & Tourism has agreements with more than 40 hospitality federations and associations, and it organises regular meetings with benchmark employers in the industry nationwide. The financial institution also attends the main international tourism fairs (Fitur, WTM, ITB); the most relevant sectoral events held in Spain (Exceltur, Hosteltur Forum, TIS) and is a member of the World Tourism Organisation, the United Nations body tasked with fostering responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism for all. The bank has also recently received an award from the Madrid Hotel Business Association for driving social impact programmes, such as ‘ReUtilizame’, which channels surplus materials from hotel companies to social organisations; ‘Dualiza’, which promotes partnerships between vocational and company training centres; and ‘Incorpora’, the “la Caixa” Foundation programme for integrating people in vulnerable situations into society and the workplace.
