In the current context where sustainability is a fundamental pillar for society and its development a task still pending in different areas, the implementation of sustainable finance is essential for the financial services ecosystem. Promoting ESG-responsible financial models and creating innovative solutions, which drive the green transition, is one of the current priorities in the banking sector. Financial institutions are increasingly playing a crucial role in fostering the development of sustainable and responsible business models that have a positive impact on both society and the environment.
In this line, The Digital Banker recognises, through its Global Sustainable Finance Awards, the world's most innovative financial services, products, solutions and projects in the field of sustainable finance.
In this year's edition, CaixaBank picked up three of the awards: Best Wholesale/Transaction Bank in Sustainable Finance in Spain 2024', 'Best Wholesale/Transaction Bank in Sustainable Finance in Europe 2024' and the award for 'Excellence in the Net-Zero 2024 Transition Initiative'.
This latest award is in recognition of the innovation of CaixaBank CIB's Net Zero Advisory service, integrated within ESG Advisory and aimed at supporting corporate clients in the transition of their business models to achieve neutral or positive impacts in various environmental areas through the management and mitigation of variables such as decarbonisation, water management, biodiversity and the circular economy.
CaixaBank's activity in sustainable finance is also one of the essential pillars of the bank, which has set out in its Strategic Plan the mobilisation of €64 billion in sustainable finance between 2022 and 2024. By the close of the first half of 2024, the bank had mobilised a total of €67.16 billion, exceeding the target set six months earlier than expected.
Wide international recognition
These awards are in addition to those of 'Best ESG Bank in Spain 2024' by Euromoney magazine and 'Best Bank in the World for Supporting Society 2024', 'Best Bank in Sustainable Finance in Western Europe 2024' and 'Best Bank in Sustainable Lending in Western Europe 2024' by Global Finance magazine.
In addition, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (ERBD) has recognised the bank for its commitment to sustainability in the field of multilateral financing with two international awards for two trade finance operations with its '2023 Deal of the Year - Green Trade' awards in the 'Circular Economy' and 'Renewable Energy' categories.
